What is the difference between a visitor and a volunteer?
A volunteer is an individual who offers their time and services without monetary compensation, operating in accordance with the policies and procedures of the district. Volunteers work under the supervision and direction of the district’s professional staff.
A volunteer typically meets the following criteria:
-
Provides a service to the school
-
Is not compensated by the district
-
Offers ongoing or repeated service at a specific site
-
May interact with students while performing their duties
Why does Culver School District require a criminal background check for volunteers?
In compliance with Oregon State Law, any individual who may have direct, unsupervised contact with students is required to complete a criminal background check. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is a top priority.
What if I’ve completed a background check elsewhere?
All volunteers must complete the background check process specifically through the Culver School District, regardless of previous checks conducted through other organizations.
When will my application be approved?
The volunteer application process, including the background check, generally takes 5–7 business days. Applicants are encouraged to submit their application at least two weeks prior to their intended volunteer date. Notification of approval or denial will be sent via email.
Who should I contact for questions about my application or assistance with the process?
For questions regarding application status, technical support, or general inquiries, please contact our District Office directly at 541.546.2541.
Can I be denied volunteer status even if I have not been convicted of a disqualifying crime?
Yes. The Culver School District reserves the right to deny or revoke volunteer status at its discretion if an individual is deemed to pose a potential disruption to the educational environment.
Do I need to complete a separate application for each school?
No. Once approved, a volunteer application is valid across all district schools for a two-year period. However, a specific volunteer assignment must be arranged with each school where you intend to serve. Please reach out to individual schools to learn about available opportunities.
What is the minimum age requirement to volunteer?
All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
